Mega Evolution is a temporary, in-battle transformation that boosts a Pokémon's stats and may change its typing and Abilities. It lasts until the end of the battle or until the Pokémon faints, and only one Pokémon per team may Mega Evolve per battle.

Requirements

To Mega Evolve a Pokémon you need both of the following:

  1. A Key Stone worn by the trainer (see the trigger items below).
  2. The matching species-specific Mega Stone, held by the Pokémon.

The following key items let a trainer trigger Mega Evolution:

  • Bracelet ORAS
  • Boost Necklace
  • Mega Glasses
  • Mega Anchor
  • Mega Tiara

Notes

  • Rayquaza does not use a Mega Stone — it Mega Evolves while knowing the move Dragon Ascent (and not holding a Z-Crystal).
